This Thursday, the World Cup of Technology begins. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which officially runs Thursday through Sunday in Las Vegas, bills itself as the "World's largest consumer technology trade show." Others have called it a "gadget Super Bowl" or "Christmas morning" for nerds.
About 2,500 companies will show off new tech toys at CES this year - an eye-popping showcase what will cover more than 1.6 million square feet. Anything you plug in, fill with batteries, or wirelessly sync will be there. The best of the best - the newest of the new.
Essentially, the show sets the year's tech trends, hitting on themes that will keep popping up and evolving all the way through the next holiday shipping season. Last year at CES, 3D TVs and tablet computers - or at least the promise they represented - were all the rage. We know 3D TVs have not caught on as fast as some companies would like, but Apple started the tablet revolution last April with the iPad. I expect to see some interesting knock-offs, as well as some potential competition for Apple this year.
Let me know in the comments what you would like me to see and report on. I will be posting video and pictures on our Facebook page next week. Like us, and join in the conversation. Also, follow us on Twitter. Our Social Media Director, Beau Rosser, will be on the show floor tweeting out interesting things he sees.
