Enhance your iPhone 4 Pictures
Friday, February 10, 2012 by cyberacoustics
Some say that a picture’s worth a thousand words. I say: depends on the picture. With so many camera phones and point-and-shoot cameras out there, one only has to join a site like Flickr or even poke around on Facebook to see just how bad some pictures can be. But what if you could make your pictures stand out—just by using your iPhone, and spending less than $100?
The first thing you need are lenses. I found this package deal on photojojo.com—for just $49, you get three small yet powerful lenses: the Fisheye, Telephoto, and Macro/Wide Angle Cell Phone Lenses. These finely constructed lenses transform your standard phone photos into wide, up-close, super-zoomed and wonderfully warped wonders.
The next thing I purchased was this GSI Super Quality Photo Package for the iPhone camera. For $34 you get a Long Focal 8x Zoom Optical Telephoto Extended 30x70mm lens, a Mini Tripod with Universal Mount Holder, velvet case, and cleaning cloth. The best a-ha moment was with the case. I was able to take the mounting magnet from the lenses I got from photojojo site and glue it into the camera hole on the velvet case. This let me use all four lenses without taking the velvet case off.
Ok, now you have the equipment to go out and take pictures, but you still need are a few apps that you can use to enhance or add special touches. Here are some that I use that can be purchased right off the App store.
TouchRetouch is a revolutionary application that lets you remove unwanted content or objects from your photos, using just your finger and your iPhone or iPod Touch. Mark the items you want taken out of the snapshot and hit “Go.” That’s all there is to it!
Instagram by Burbn, Inc.
15 million users love Instagram! It's a free, fun, and simple way to make and share gorgeous photos on your iPhone. Pick from one of several filtered effects or tilt-shift blur to breathe new life into your mobile photos. The filters and effects are a great way to transform everyday moments into works of art.
Hipstamatic by Synthetic, LLC
Digital photography never looked so analog. The Hipstamatic app brings back the look, feel, unpredictable beauty, and fun of plastic toy cameras of the past. It lets you keep the quirks of shooting old school but gives you the ability to swap lenses, film, and flash settings all with the swipe of a finger.
TiltShift by Michael Krause
The TiltShift app transforms a scene into a miniature world. This application simulates a tilt-shift lens that tricks your mind into viewing a photo as a miniature scene, like a model railroad for example.
360 Panorama by Occipita
Take stunning 360 panoramas everywhere. 360 Panorama turns your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad 2 into a full featured 360-degree panoramic camera. Easily capture immersive panoramas in seconds and instantly share your 360 view with the world. Simply pan the camera and watch as images are stitched seamlessly. 360 Panorama captures scenes in a way you never could with a traditional camera.
Grungetastic by JixiPix Software
Grungetastic is the very best at creating grunge, distorted, and distressed images. If you are looking for a clean elegant photo, then you’re in the wrong place! With a few taps of your finger, Grungetastic will transform your photo into a grungy work of art.
There you go! For under $100 you now have the tools to go out and take pictures that will impress your friends and family. The beauty of it is that you don’t need a camera, just your iPhone. Please let me know if there are any other apps out there for us to try. Happy shooting…
