What to do - where to eat?

When Apple's App Store made it's official launch with the iPhone 3G, no one would have thought that those tiny little apps would change the way we discover new places and activities. 

One of the premiere apps that focused on restaurant discovery was Urbanspoon. Urbanspoon constantly gets updated, but its main focus has stayed the same since its launch - finding restaurants in your area that you may have not known about.

It's a simple concept that has been very helpful in my food discovery.

But as our mobile society moves toward a more "now, now, now" philosophy, static apps like Urbanspoon may need a major overhaul.

Luckily, the social daily-deals powerhouse, Groupon, is looking to change the way we move through our daily activities with their new and ambitious app, Groupon Now.

Groupon Now departs from Groupon's typical deal a day groundwork by offering users of the app the ability to view deals that are not always "one time only." Some deals may come back every Monday, or specific deals may be available during certain times of the day.

Not only will the Goupon Now app benefit customers, but also the businesses implementing the group coupons.  Groupon Now will allow small businesses the ability to tailor-make coupons that fit the need of their day-to-day business. Hopefully, by giving better deals on certain days, businesses will be able to control and increase traffic out of an otherwise slow day. 

Slated for an April released, Groupon Now could drastically change the way we, as a society, discover new places, while also saving us a buck or two.
