What's for dinner?

I envy people in small towns that have those hole-in-a-wall diners. A place where locals go to get the best food at the best price - where everybody knows everybody and you're treated like family. Oh how I miss my favorite little Italian restaurant in Darien, Connecticut.
Now that I live on the west coast, I sometimes worry I wont be able to find those unique places without the fear of having to have a Pepto Bismol bottle at the ready. So how do I find these places? Why the Internet, of course. We shop online for everything else, why not food? The top four sites I use are Urbanspoon, Foodspotting, Yelp, and Opentable.
Urbanspoon has just launched a brand new version of its app, complete with a full redesign and the ability to rate and upload photos of your dishes. Like Foodspotting, you can take a picture of your meal and upload it, write a specific recommendation for the dish, and post it. Instead of just reading the menu online, you actually get to see the dish. You have more input on not just the best places to eat, but also the best things to order at the restaurant.
Though there are good chain restaurants out there, I prefer a small restaurant that challenges my taste buds. I highly recommend you check out these sites and leave the Pepto in the medicine cabinet.
